Reminder: Trust the Timing of Your Life

Hey, Sunshine. Happy New Year! I have missed posting on the blog tremendously. I felt an urge to write on this topic as a short reminder for you and for myself, but I wanted to wait until today to post it. Especially with the start of a new year, it is important to take a step back, re-evaluate the direction we are going in, and identify areas of improvement. Reminder: Trust the Timing of Your Life

As you grow and experience unexpected changes, I just want to remind you that every opportunity, every rejection, every lost friendship, every breakup, everything you experience in life happens exactly because it is supposed to–even the closest losses. Even the times where one different move would have resulted in an alternative outcome happened for a specific purpose and at the right time.

Now, just because something was meant to happen doesn’t make it easy or any less painful. Life is complicated and difficult and you are going to undergo many trials. It’s disappointing when you focus your energy on an idea or a person just for things to change from your ideal vision, and a big part of this is because there is a lingering curiosity of what could’ve been.

Nevertheless, these events build character and they are the stepping stones to the strong and well-versed person you are becoming. The important takeaway is that you are constantly learning and evolving. Not a single person is perfect and no one wakes up knowing exactly how the rest of their life will unfold.

Shifting your perspective on change and hardship is what will allow you to, not only overcome, but also appreciate them for offering opportunities for growth. If you take one thing away from the blog post, remember that if you believe that something will be difficult, it is guaranteed to be difficult. If you believe that you can overcome a challenge you are facing in life, the power is in your hands.

I try to keep these posts applicable to everyone, but I just want to remind you that God, or the universe, or any higher power you believe in, always works for you and never against you. Trust that without these obstacles you would have never been pulled to become the person you are today.

If you are putting your best foot forward and giving your full potential into something, you are exactly where you are supposed to be in life, regardless of whether or not it aligns with what you originally had planned. Your story is completely different from the person’s next to you. Your Chapter 6 is different from someone else’s Chapter 6, so comparing yourself to others is only setting yourself up for frustration and distress. You move at your pace even if it is difficult to remember when it seems like everyone else has it figured out.

By the way, nobody has life completely figured out. I contemplate (and if I am going to be honest, stress over) the millions of different directions my life could go probably once or twice a week. But I too am a work in progress and I understand now more than ever the importance of being resilient and kind to myself. I try to remember that my circumstances may be out of my control, but I have power over me.

The term “hardiness” defines the ability to overcome challenging obstacles. Think of experiencing a tough situation like stepping on a piece of glass. Removing the glass from your foot will sting, but it will eventually heal and you will be able to walk again. You will be more mindful of broken glass on the floor next time. On the other hand, leaving that piece of glass in your foot will lead to long-term pain and infection. That piece of glass could be a toxic person in your life or a job you just lost, but these losses could open doors you could have never even imagined.

Changes in life build hardiness, a skill that shapes the way you perceive…really, anything. Hardiness fosters confidence and it is a talent to be able to see hardships, not as a burden, but as a challenge.

Although extremely painful in the moment, I am grateful for the opportunities that didn’t work out for me. They helped me learn that what we experience in life is either a blessing or it is a lesson. These obstacles build perspective, although I acknowledge that it is not easy when your original plan doesn’t work out. Your circumstances will be unpredictable solely because of the nature of life. The one and only thing you can control is how you choose to perceive hardship.

2022 is here! Hoorah! How will you choose to navigate through this new chapter? It is a fresh start with new avenues for change and growth. Trust the timing of your life and I promise you that if you keep working towards your goals and are steadfast throughout the ups and downs, you will be unstoppable.

I am so proud of you, Sunshine. You have come so far in life and you are maturing beautifully. The fact that you are reading this post just goes to show how much you value your self-improvement journey.

I love this! The world can feel so out of control (especially in the pandemic) and knowing that it is not outside of God’s control is so comforting. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!

I am 100% in agreement with the mindset that everything happens for a reason. Sometimes it doesn’t seem that way… but you usually see the “why” later down the road!
