The Beauty of Humility

Hey, Sunshine! I hope you are doing amazing. I have missed the blog tremendously…words cannot even put it into words. In this post I want to talk about walking with humility and how it can serve a purpose in our lives. This is a short reminder–above all, for myself–and to anyone reading this to take a step back and reflect on the way we carry ourselves through our thoughts, words, and actions. I want to thank you so much for checking out my page, you have no idea how much it means to me. T

What is Humility?

I want to emphasize that humility is a practice. The act of being humble is not instinctual by any means, and we need to put in the effort to choose humility. Humility is gentle. It is respectful, confident, peaceful, and grateful. Humility leaves no room for envy or excessive pride.

Humble people are modest in their speech and demeanor and do not seek validation from others. Those who are truly humble do not need to assert dominance when interacting with others. Because of this, some may mistaken humility for weakness. However it is the exact opposite–humility is powerful. Nelson Mandela explained that, “if you are humble… if you make people realize that you are of no threat to them, then people will embrace you.” Sometimes the most soft-spoken people radiate an unexplainable and magnetic energy, so much so that their presence is attractive. There is a common phrase that goes, “Confidence is quiet yet insecurity screams.”

The importance of Humility

Why should we walk with humility and how does it benefit us? When you are humble, you already know your value. Psychologist Carl Rogers theorized the idea of unconditional positive regard, or showing complete acceptance for another person regardless of their words, feelings, or actions. Humble people have this internal “unconditional positive regard” for themselves because they understand that their presence, feelings, and achievements are just as important as anybody else’s. Humble people accept themselves for their efforts and forgive themselves for their faults. This unconditional acceptance allows for a sense of security and peace, and thus there is no need to put on a facade of “appearing” confident because humble people already are confident.

Understand that there is–and will always be–somebody smarter than you, stronger than you, more “attractive” than you, etc. Walking with humility means that regardless of the people who exceed you in some aspects, you are whole because nobody is you and that is your superpower. Walking with humility exudes an aura that draws people into your life. Even if you embrace something desirable to someone else, you do not flaunt it because 1) every single person has a gift to offer in this world, and 2) it can be taken away at any moment.

Humility, what a beautiful way to practice life. Of course I will forever be a work in progress. I just wanted to share my thoughts and serve as a short reminder. I am incredibly grateful for you.
